ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

ADHD is a condition that affects how the brain manages attention, motivation, planning, and self-control. It is not a behavioural flaw or a result of poor discipline, as many people believe. Instead, it involves differences in brain function that influence how information is processed and actions are regulated.
Symptoms of ADHD vary widely between individuals. Some people struggle primarily with attention, finding it difficult to stay focused, follow through on tasks, or manage time effectively. Others experience heightened levels of restlessness, impulsive decision-making, or difficulty regulating emotions. Many individuals display a mixture of these patterns.
Because symptoms can change with age and life circumstances, ADHD is often overlooked, particularly in adults who have developed coping mechanisms that mask underlying challenges.
ADHD cannot be diagnosed through a single test or scan. Diagnosis requires a detailed clinical assessment that examines behavioural patterns, developmental history, and current functioning across different areas of life.
Clinicians assess whether symptoms meet recognised diagnostic criteria, including onset during childhood, persistence over time, and impact on daily activities such as education, work, or relationships. Standardised questionnaires, clinical interviews, and supporting information are used to build an accurate and balanced picture.
A thorough diagnostic process is essential, as ADHD shares overlapping features with other conditions such as anxiety, depression, or learning differences. Proper assessment ensures that individuals receive the correct diagnosis and appropriate recommendations.
A private ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by qualified specialists outside NHS pathways. It offers you the opportunity to receive a timely, in-depth assessment without long wait times.
Private assessments are designed to explore symptoms in detail, considering how they have evolved and how they currently affect everyday life. The process allows for longer consultation times, enabling clinicians to gain a deeper understanding of each patient’s experiences.
Following the assessment, individuals receive clear feedback, diagnostic conclusions, and personalised guidance on next steps, which may include treatment options, coping strategies, or further referrals.
One of the most significant differences between private and NHS ADHD assessments is waiting time. NHS services are often subject to high demand, resulting in long delays before assessment can take place.
Private ADHD assessments offer faster access, allowing individuals to receive answers and support sooner. This can be particularly important for those experiencing academic difficulties, workplace challenges, or mental health concerns related to undiagnosed ADHD.
Private services also typically provide more flexible appointment scheduling, longer assessment sessions, and detailed written reports. These features allow for a more personalised experience and clearer communication throughout the diagnostic process.
Choosing the right provider for an ADHD assessment is essential for accurate diagnosis and meaningful support. At The Neuro Medical Group, assessments are conducted by experienced clinicians with specialist knowledge in neurodevelopmental conditions.
Our approach is patient-focused and evidence-based. We take time to understand each individual’s background, challenges, and goals rather than relying on surface-level observations. Every assessment is conducted with professionalism, sensitivity, and respect for the patient’s experience.
We also place strong emphasis on clarity. Patients leave their assessment with a clear understanding of the findings, what they mean, and the options available moving forward.
The private ADHD assessment process at The Neuro Medical Group begins with an initial consultation. During this stage, a clinician gathers detailed information about symptoms, early development, education, work history, and daily functioning.
Standardised diagnostic tools are used alongside clinical interviews to ensure a robust and accurate assessment. Where relevant, additional background information may be requested to support diagnostic conclusions.
Once the assessment is complete, findings are carefully reviewed and explained in a follow-up discussion. Patients receive a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment outcome and personalised recommendations tailored to their needs.
Receiving an ADHD diagnosis can bring relief and understanding, particularly for individuals who have struggled with unexplained difficulties for many years. Early and accurate assessment helps reduce the risk of secondary challenges such as low self-esteem, academic underachievement, or workplace stress.
A diagnosis also provides a framework for accessing appropriate support, whether through medical treatment, psychological strategies, or practical daily-life adjustments. Without assessment, individuals may continue to face avoidable challenges without targeted guidance.
A private ADHD assessment may be suitable for children, adolescents, and adults who experience persistent difficulties with attention, organisation, impulsivity, or emotional regulation. It is also valuable for individuals who feel their symptoms have been misunderstood or previously misattributed to other causes.
Adults who suspect ADHD later in life often seek assessment to gain clarity and develop more effective coping strategies. Parents may pursue assessment for children who struggle academically or behaviourally despite appropriate support.
We take pride in the trust our clients place in us. Here’s what they have to say about their experience and our commitment to quality.
