ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain regulates attention, activity levels, and impulse control. It is not a behavioural choice or a lack of discipline, but rather a difference in how the brain processes information and responds to stimuli. ADHD can present differently from person to person, which is why professional assessment is essential.
ADHD symptoms often show up in daily life in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. These symptoms may vary depending on age, environment, and individual coping strategies.
Individuals may struggle to focus on tasks, conversations, or instructions for extended periods. This can affect academic performance, work productivity, and everyday responsibilities.
Acting without thinking, interrupting others, or experiencing intense emotional responses are common features. These behaviours can impact relationships and lead to feelings of frustration or regret.
ADHD does not always involve physical hyperactivity. Many adults experience constant mental activity, racing thoughts, and difficulty switching off, particularly when trying to relax or sleep.
Until recently, ADHD was thought to be a single, uniform condition. However, clinicians now recognise different types of ADHD based on how symptoms present, which helps tailor treatment and support.
This type is characterised by difficulties with focus, organisation, and task follow-through. It is often underdiagnosed, particularly in adults and girls, as symptoms may be less disruptive but equally impactful.
Individuals with this presentation experience high levels of physical restlessness and impulsivity. Symptoms may include constant movement, talking excessively, or difficulty waiting or sitting still.
This is the most common presentation and includes both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms. People with combined ADHD often experience challenges across multiple areas of life.
Although you may have some of the symptoms commonly associated with ADHD, it’s not always the root cause. Some of the factors that should encourage you to seek treatment include:
If difficulties with focus, organisation, impulsivity, or emotional regulation are persistent and interfere with daily functioning, an ADHD assessment may be worth considering. These challenges often appear across different environments, such as home, work, or education.
ADHD can be diagnosed at any age, and many adults only seek assessment later in life.
Many adults pursue assessment after struggling with work performance, relationships, or mental health concerns for years. A diagnosis can help explain lifelong patterns and open the door to effective support.
Early assessment in children can help prevent academic difficulties, low self-esteem, and behavioural challenges by ensuring the right support is in place from an early stage.
ADHD assessments are available at both NHS and private clinics, such as Neuro Medical Group. While the processes and tests might be similar, the experience might be vastly different.
NHS ADHD assessments are clinically robust but often come with long waiting times.
Many individuals face waits of several months or even years, which can delay diagnosis and treatment.
Appointments may be shorter due to service pressures, potentially limiting in-depth exploration of symptoms.
Private assessments offer a faster and more personalised alternative.
Private ADHD assessments in Bury St Edmunds typically allow individuals to be seen within weeks rather than months.
Longer appointment times allow clinicians to explore symptoms thoroughly and provide detailed recommendations tailored to individual needs.
Neuro Medical Group provides ADHD assessments led by experienced specialists in neurodevelopmental conditions. Assessments are conducted using evidence-based methods aligned with current clinical guidelines.
Every assessment is approached with empathy and understanding.
Clinicians take time to listen, ensuring patients feel heard and supported throughout the process.
Findings and recommendations are explained in straightforward language, helping individuals fully understand their diagnosis and next steps.
The detailed assessment reports provided by Neuro Medical Group can be shared with GPs, schools, universities, or employers. This helps individuals access reasonable adjustments, shared care arrangements, and additional services where needed.
An ADHD assessment helps individuals understand the root cause of their challenges. For many, receiving a diagnosis brings relief and validation after years of self-doubt or misdiagnosis.
A confirmed diagnosis allows access to appropriate treatment options.
Where appropriate, medication can help improve focus, impulse control, and emotional regulation.
Therapy, coaching, and lifestyle adjustments are often recommended to support long-term well-being.
With the right support in place, many people experience improved confidence, productivity, and relationships. Understanding ADHD helps individuals work with their strengths rather than constantly struggling against their symptoms.
Following the assessment, you will receive a clear outcome explaining whether the ADHD criteria are met. The clinician will discuss how symptoms align with diagnostic standards and how they affect daily functioning.
The assessment includes a detailed written report outlining findings, diagnosis, and recommendations. This document can be used to support GP referrals, workplace adjustments, or educational accommodations.
Each assessment concludes with tailored guidance on what to do next.
This may include medication, therapy, or coaching, depending on individual needs.
Recommendations often include regular reviews to monitor progress and adjust treatment as needed.
