ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain processes attention, motivation, and self-regulation. It is not a behavioural choice or a lack of discipline. But it is linked to differences in brain chemistry and neural pathways responsible for executive functioning.
People with ADHD often experience difficulty sustaining attention, managing time, controlling impulses, or regulating emotions. These challenges can present differently from one person to another, which is why ADHD is often misunderstood or overlooked, particularly in adults.
Although ADHD is a lifelong condition, individuals can develop effective strategies to manage symptoms and thrive in daily life with an accurate diagnosis and appropriate support.
ADHD symptoms present differently from person to person, which can make it challenging to recognise. Some individuals struggle primarily with concentration, finding it hard to stay focused during conversations, complete tasks, or manage time effectively. Others experience restlessness, impulsive behaviour, or difficulty regulating emotions.
Although common, the symptoms are not limited to academic or professional settings. ADHD can also affect relationships, daily routines, and self-esteem. Many adults report feeling overwhelmed by simple tasks or constantly behind despite effort and motivation.
If these challenges have been present for a long time and affect multiple areas of life, an ADHD assessment can help determine whether they reflect a neurodevelopmental condition rather than situational stress.
ADHD is commonly described using three recognised presentations, based on how symptoms tend to appear.
Some individuals experience predominantly inattentive ADHD, characterised by difficulties with concentration, organisation, and memory. Others present with predominantly hyperactive or impulsive traits, such as restlessness, impatience, or acting without considering consequences.
Many people experience a combined presentation, where both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive features are present. Identifying the specific type helps clinicians tailor recommendations and support strategies more effectively.
ADHD diagnosis is based on a comprehensive clinical assessment rather than a single test or scan. Our clinician evaluates behavioural patterns, developmental history, and current functioning to determine whether symptoms meet established diagnostic criteria.
The process typically includes structured interviews, standardised questionnaires, and exploration of how symptoms have impacted daily life over time. Clinicians also consider whether symptoms began in childhood and persist into adulthood.
Careful assessment is essential because ADHD shares features with other conditions such as anxiety, depression, and learning difficulties. A thorough evaluation helps ensure an accurate and reliable diagnosis.
Seeking an ADHD diagnosis may be appropriate when ongoing difficulties begin to interfere with everyday functioning. This could include problems at work, challenges in education, strained relationships, or persistent feelings of frustration.
Many adults pursue assessment later in life after recognising patterns that have existed since childhood. Others seek diagnosis during periods of increased responsibility, such as career progression or parenthood, when coping strategies become less effective.
If symptoms are persistent and long-standing, affecting quality of life, a professional ADHD assessment can provide valuable insight and direction.
Both private and NHS ADHD assessments follow recognised diagnostic standards, but access and experience can differ. NHS assessments often involve long waiting times due to high demand, which can delay diagnosis and support.
Private ADHD assessments offer quicker access and greater flexibility. They typically allow for longer consultation times, enabling more detailed exploration of symptoms and history.
Private services also tend to provide comprehensive written reports and clearer follow-up guidance, which can be particularly helpful for individuals seeking structured next steps after diagnosis.
At The Neuro Medical Group, we are committed to delivering ADHD assessments that prioritise accuracy, professionalism, and patient understanding. Our assessments are conducted by experienced clinicians with specialist expertise in neurodevelopmental conditions.
We take a personalised approach, ensuring each assessment reflects the individual’s experiences rather than relying on generic checklists. Clear communication is central to our service, and we ensure patients understand both the assessment process and the outcomes.
Our focus is on providing clarity and practical guidance, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Your private ADHD assessment in Essex begins with an in-depth consultation with a qualified clinician. This session focuses on understanding your current challenges, early development, and how symptoms affect different areas of life.
Standardised diagnostic tools are used alongside clinical interviews to build a complete and accurate picture. Where relevant, additional background information may be considered to support diagnostic conclusions.
After the assessment, the clinician will discuss findings with you and explain whether diagnostic criteria for ADHD have been met. You will receive a detailed written report outlining the outcome and personalised recommendations for next steps.
An ADHD assessment provides insight rather than just a label. Depending on the outcome, recommendations may include medical treatment options, psychological support, coaching, or practical strategies to improve daily functioning.
At The Neuro Medical Group, we ensure individuals leave their assessment with a clear understanding of available options and how to access further support if needed.
