ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

ADHD is a lifelong condition that affects how the brain regulates various functions such as attention, impulse control, and activity levels. It is not caused by poor parenting, lack of discipline, or low intelligence. Instead, ADHD is associated with differences in brain structure, chemistry, and information processing.
ADHD is diagnosed based on how symptoms present and which challenges are most prominent. Clinicians generally recognise three main types, also referred to as presentations.
This type is characterised by difficulties with focus, organisation, memory, and completing tasks. Individuals may appear quiet or withdrawn and are often overlooked, particularly in adults and girls, because hyperactivity is less obvious.
People with this presentation may struggle with restlessness, impulsive behaviour, excessive talking, and difficulty sitting still. These symptoms are often more noticeable in children but can persist into adulthood.
This is the most common presentation and includes symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. It can significantly affect daily functioning across work, education, and relationships if left unmanaged.
Understanding the type of ADHD is essential, as it helps guide appropriate treatment, coping strategies, and support.
ADHD symptoms often change over time, which is why some people remain undiagnosed until adulthood. While children may display more visible behavioural challenges, adults often experience internalised difficulties that affect productivity and emotional well-being.
Children with ADHD may struggle to follow instructions, complete homework, or remain engaged in lessons, even when academically capable.
This can include constant movement, interrupting others, difficulty waiting their turn, and acting without considering consequences.
Adults may frequently miss deadlines, lose important items, or feel overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities, despite putting in significant effort.
Many adults experience heightened emotional responses, frustration, low self-esteem, and burnout due to years of unmanaged symptoms.
If these challenges are persistent, affect multiple areas of life, and have been present since childhood, an ADHD assessment may be appropriate.
There is no blood test, brain scan, or quick screening tool that can definitively diagnose ADHD. Instead, diagnosis relies on a structured clinical assessment conducted by a qualified healthcare professional.
Testing for ADHD involves gathering detailed information about symptoms, developmental history, and daily functioning.
These tools help identify symptom patterns and severity, but are used alongside, not instead of, clinical judgement.
Clinicians use established guidelines to ensure symptoms meet the threshold for an ADHD diagnosis and are not better explained by another condition.
This comprehensive approach ensures an accurate and responsible diagnosis.
An ADHD assessment is designed to build a complete picture of an individual’s experiences from childhood to the present day. It is not a test you can pass or fail, but a clinical exploration of long-standing patterns.
The clinician will explore early behaviour, education, family history, and life experiences to identify when symptoms first appeared.
Attention is given to how ADHD traits affect work, education, relationships, emotional well-being, and daily responsibilities.
ADHD often overlaps with anxiety, depression, autism, or learning difficulties, all of which are carefully considered during assessment.
In Ipswich, ADHD assessments are available through both the NHS and private providers. Each route has its advantages, but many people choose private assessments for accessibility and timing.
NHS assessments can take months or even years, making it challenging for individuals seeking timely support.
Appointment times may be shorter, with less flexibility for in-depth discussion.
Private assessments allow individuals to be seen much sooner, reducing uncertainty and stress.
Longer consultations and detailed evaluations are often available, ensuring a thorough assessment experience.
For many individuals, a private ADHD assessment provides clarity and support without prolonged delays.
A private ADHD assessment in Ipswich with Neuro Medical Group follows a straightforward, step-by-step process that is thorough, confidential, and patient-centred.
Before your appointment, you will complete structured forms that assess attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. These help identify whether a full assessment is appropriate.
Screening also gathers details about your medical history, education, work life, and any previous mental health concerns.
This stage helps clinicians prepare for a focused and practical assessment.
The clinical interview explores your symptoms in detail, including how they affect your daily life and how long they have been present.
ADHD must show evidence of symptoms from an early age, so past experiences are discussed alongside current challenges.
This is often the most important part of the assessment, as it allows your experiences to be fully understood.
The clinician carefully reviews all gathered information to determine whether the criteria for ADHD are met.
If diagnosed, the clinician will explain which type of ADHD is present and how it specifically affects you.
This stage ensures that any diagnosis is accurate, evidence-based, and clinically justified.
You will receive a detailed written report outlining the assessment findings, diagnosis, and clinical rationale.
The report may include guidance on treatment options, lifestyle strategies, workplace or educational adjustments, and ongoing support.
This document can be shared with your GP, employer, or educational institution if needed.
