ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

There is more information and awareness about ADHD today. However, many people, including those who live with the condition, do not understand it largely because of stereotypes and misinformation about ADHD. Although many people think the symptoms of ADHD are behavioural, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the brain’s ability to manage specific functions such as attention, behaviour, and emotional regulation. Therefore, the condition is not behavioural but rather neurological.
It is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, often starting in childhood and carrying on into adulthood if not diagnosed or supported early. While ADHD is often characterised by difficulty focusing or hyperactivity, it is far more complex, and the symptoms vary widely between individuals.
ADHD presents in different ways, and depending on the nature of the symptoms, you could fall into one of the three categories of ADHD, which include:
People with inattentive ADHD often struggle with focus, organisation, and follow-through. Typical symptoms include:
This type is more commonly diagnosed in adults and women, as it can appear less disruptive and therefore less noticeable in childhood.
This type is more commonly associated with visible activity and impulsive behaviours. Symptoms may include:
Children with this type often show signs early, making diagnosis easier.
This type includes symptoms of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive ADHD. It is the most common presentation and can affect multiple areas of daily life, including work, school, relationships, and emotional well-being.
An ADHD assessment is crucial because other conditions, such as anxiety and depression, also have similar symptoms. The assessment allows you to be certain if you have ADHD and get the support you need.
You should consider seeking an assessment when they notice ongoing challenges at school, work, or home, including:
Getting assessed helps to identify whether you have ADHD or another condition that may be contributing to symptoms. It provides a clearer understanding of your strengths, challenges, and practical strategies moving forward.
You can get your ADHD assessment from the NHS. However, there are challenges with going the NHS way, with the most significant one being the waiting times, which often exceed one to two years due to high demand.
As a result, many individuals choose a private ADHD assessment to access the clarity and support they need sooner. Key benefits of choosing a private assessment include:
Because private assessments don’t have the same long lines, they are more thorough and allow more time during the assessment for discussions, which are critical to the diagnostic process.
At Neuro Medical Group, we take a thorough, evidence-based approach to every ADHD assessment. Our goal is to ensure you feel understood, supported, and empowered throughout the entire process. Here is what you can expect when you schedule a private ADHD assessment at our Liverpool clinic:
Before your formal assessment, we will have you complete questionnaires and screening forms to gather background information foundational to the assessment. These forms also help our clinicians understand your primary concerns, developmental history, and how symptoms present in different environments.
The core of the assessment is a structured interview with a specialist neurodevelopmental clinician. This conversation explores your behavioural patterns, emotional responses, focus, organisation, relationships, and daily challenges. It also considers family history, educational background, and relevant medical information.
We use validated, standardised diagnostic tools to assess attention, impulsivity, and other behaviours associated with ADHD. These tools are essential for ensuring a reliable and clinically accurate diagnosis.
Once all information has been evaluated, your clinician will provide clear feedback and let you know whether you meet the criteria for ADHD. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss next steps.
After the assessment, you will receive a detailed diagnostic report that includes your assessment results, a clinical diagnosis and personalised recommendations for ongoing support.
We take pride in the trust our clients place in us. Here’s what they have to say about their experience and our commitment to quality.
