ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD in short, is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the brain’s ability to regulate functions such as attention, behaviour, and impulses.
The condition is characterised mainly by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interfere with daily life, though the severity of these symptoms may vary from individual to individual. Contrary to popular opinion, ADHD is not a behavioural choice or a sign of laziness. It is a mental condition that affects how the brain processes information and manages executive functions such as planning, focus, and emotional regulation.
Typically, the symptoms of ADHD are identified in childhood, but many people are only diagnosed in adolescence or adulthood. However, symptoms may differ and are influenced by age, environment, and individual temperament.
In children, ADHD may present as a difficulty following instructions or sitting still, while in adults, it might present as disorganisation, restlessness, or trouble maintaining focus at work. It is critical to understand the nature of ADHD to ensure you get an assessment at the earliest possible time to improve the outcome.
If you exhibit some of the symptoms of ADHD, you may need to get an ADHD assessment. It is a structured and detailed evaluation that helps determine whether an individual meets the clinical criteria for ADHD.
The assessment examines behavioural patterns, cognitive functioning, and developmental history to provide a clear picture of how symptoms affect everyday life and to inform a diagnosis. Our comprehensive private ADHD assessment in Newcastle can also help to distinguish ADHD from other conditions that may present with similar challenges, such as anxiety, autism, or learning difficulties.
ADHD assessments can be life-changing for individuals who have struggled through the years without a clear explanation for their symptoms.
Here are some of the reasons why you should consider getting an ADHD assessment:
Many people spend years feeling misunderstood and frustrated, only to discover later that their difficulties are neurological. An assessment is a pathway to a diagnosis that can provide validation and understanding and give you some much-needed answers about your struggles.
After completing the assessment and getting a formal diagnosis, you can explore treatment options such as medication, behavioural strategies, coaching, therapy, or workplace and educational adjustments. For children, tailored support at school can improve academic performance and emotional well-being.
Another reason to get an ADHD assessment is to access the proper support early, which can improve your quality of life. Without assessment and the proper support, ADHD can lead to frustration, low self-esteem, and disruptions in academic, social, or professional functioning. Understanding the condition early allows you to develop coping mechanisms, work on your strengths, and move forward with confidence.
It’s not only essential to get an ADHD assessment, but also to know when to seek one. Timely assessments mean timely interventions and better outcomes.
If you have symptoms similar to those of ADHD that are interfering with your daily life, you should consider getting an assessment. Typical signs in children include trouble concentrating, hyperactivity, impulsive behaviour, and difficulty managing emotions. If your child consistently struggles with these issues, an assessment may provide valuable answers.
An assessment may also be appropriate if teachers, employers, or loved ones express ongoing concerns about your inattention or behaviour that seems beyond typical levels.
A private ADHD assessment with Neuro Medical Group in Newcastle is designed to be supportive, comprehensive, and easy to navigate. The process is as follows:
The first step is a pre-assessment questionnaire that helps our clinicians understand your history, concerns, and symptoms. This initial information provides a valuable foundation for the detailed clinical interview that follows.
During the assessment, the clinician will ask questions about your developmental background, daily functioning, emotional well-being, and behaviour patterns. Parents or carers may be involved in an interview involving a child to provide additional insights. Teachers’ reports or behavioural observations can also be included to create a complete picture.
We use tools or rating scales to help evaluate the frequency and impact of symptoms. These tools, combined with the clinician’s professional judgment, help ensure that the assessment is both accurate and thorough.
We will provide you with a full written diagnostic report detailing the findings, diagnosis, and personalised recommendations for next steps.
We take pride in the trust our clients place in us. Here’s what they have to say about their experience and our commitment to quality.
