ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition that affects the development of certain parts of the brain making it hard for it to control certain abilities such as attention, behaviour, and impulses.
The symptoms of ADHD are often thought of as poor motivation or lack of discipline. However, the symptoms and their impact have deeper roots with differences in the brain’s executive functioning, which influences planning, focus, organisation, and decision-making.
ADHD affects both adults and children with most cases being identified in childhood. However, the condition can present differently in children and adults.
In children, symptoms often become noticeable in school, where structured tasks and routines expose difficulties with concentration or impulsivity. In adults, the symptoms are more subtle but not any less destructive. They may include chronic disorganisation, procrastination, forgetfulness, or challenges managing responsibilities.
There is no known treatment for ADHD, but with assessment and support, you can develop strategies and coping mechanisms that significantly improve your functioning and life.
Living with undiagnosed ADHD can be challenging and confusing. Despite being relatively common, many people still live with ADHD without knowing and may not fully understand the challenges they face, often attributing them to stress, personality traits, or lifestyle factors.
A private ADHD assessment can give you some much-needed answers and ensure you get the help you need in a timely and effective manner.
If you suffer from ADHD, you may experience some or all of the following challenges:
One of the most common challenges faced by individuals with ADHD is persistent difficulty maintaining focus. This can affect work performance, academic achievement, and even simple day-to-day tasks, making it hard to stay organised or complete projects on time.
People with ADHD may act impulsively, speaking or acting without fully considering the consequences. This can lead to strained relationships, workplace misunderstandings, and feelings of frustration or regret, particularly when emotional responses feel difficult to control.
Poor time management is another hallmark challenge of ADHD. Individuals may frequently underestimate how long tasks take, miss deadlines, or struggle to plan effectively, which can contribute to stress, anxiety, and a sense of underachievement.
Living with untreated ADHD often takes a toll on mental well-being. Many people experience low self-esteem, chronic stress, anxiety, or depression after years of feeling misunderstood or criticised for behaviours beyond their control.
ADHD is diagnosed through a detailed clinical assessment rather than a single test. A proper diagnosis involves reviewing developmental history, current symptoms, and how these symptoms impact daily life across multiple settings, such as work, school, and home.
A formal ADHD diagnosis can be life-changing. It helps individuals understand that their difficulties are neurological rather than personal failings, opening the door to effective treatment, coping strategies, and, where needed, legal accommodations.
Without a diagnosis, ADHD symptoms often persist and worsen over time. Many people develop unhealthy coping mechanisms, experience burnout, or face repeated challenges in education, employment, and relationships due to a lack of appropriate support.
A private ADHD assessment in Plymouth typically begins with an in-depth consultation. During this stage, a specialist gathers information about current symptoms, medical history, and early developmental experiences to determine whether a complete assessment is appropriate.
The full assessment involves structured clinical interviews and recognised diagnostic tools aligned with NICE guidelines. These are designed to evaluate attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, and to examine how symptoms present in both childhood and adulthood.
Where appropriate, questionnaires may be completed by partners, family members, or teachers. This additional perspective helps build a more accurate picture of how ADHD symptoms affect everyday functioning across different environments.
At the end of the assessment, you receive a clear diagnosis and a comprehensive written report. This document outlines findings, explains the diagnosis in detail, and includes tailored recommendations for treatment and ongoing support.
One of the main reasons people choose a private ADHD assessment is reduced waiting time.
Private assessments allow you to be seen in weeks rather than months or years. This means you can begin treatment and support much sooner, avoiding prolonged distress.
Quicker diagnosis leads to earlier intervention, which can significantly improve long-term outcomes for both children and adults.
Private assessments typically allow more time with clinicians.
Longer appointments enable clinicians to explore symptoms thoroughly and understand how ADHD uniquely affects your life.
This approach ensures assessments are not rushed and that recommendations are tailored rather than generic.
Private services often provide a seamless pathway from diagnosis to treatment.
This may include medication management, follow-ups, and referrals for therapy or coaching.
Seeing the same specialist throughout your journey helps build trust and improve treatment outcomes.
Choosing a private ADHD assessment in Plymouth allows you to access expert care close to home. Local assessments reduce travel stress while ensuring you receive a high-quality, specialist-led evaluation.

Coaching, cognitive behavioural therapy, and lifestyle strategies are often recommended alongside or instead of medication.
A formal diagnosis enables access to workplace or academic adjustments.
These may include flexible working arrangements, additional time for tasks, or academic support plans.
