ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition that affects the development of certain parts of the brain making it hard for it to control certain abilities such as attention, behaviour, and impulses.
The symptoms of ADHD are often thought of as poor motivation or lack of discipline. However, the symptoms and their impact have deeper roots with differences in the brain’s executive functioning, which influences planning, focus, organisation, and decision-making.
ADHD affects both adults and children with most cases being identified in childhood. However, the condition can present differently in children and adults.
In children, symptoms often become noticeable in school, where structured tasks and routines expose difficulties with concentration or impulsivity. In adults, the symptoms are more subtle but not any less destructive. They may include chronic disorganisation, procrastination, forgetfulness, or challenges managing responsibilities.
There is no known treatment for ADHD, but with assessment and support, you can develop strategies and coping mechanisms that significantly improve your functioning and life.
An ADHD assessment is suitable for anyone who experiences ongoing difficulties with attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, or emotional regulation that interfere with daily life. These challenges are not occasional lapses but persistent patterns that have usually been present since childhood.
Adults often seek assessments after years of struggling at work, feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities, or experiencing repeated burnout. Children and adolescents may benefit from an assessment if they are having difficulties at school, are struggling socially, or are exhibiting behavioural challenges that do not improve with routine support.
ADHD does not look the same in everyone, which is why assessments are helpful across all life stages.
may benefit if they struggle with concentration, emotional outbursts, academic progress, or peer relationships despite adequate support at school and home. Early diagnosis can make a significant difference to long-term outcomes.
often seek assessment after recognising patterns such as chronic disorganisation, missed deadlines, low self-esteem, or difficulty maintaining focus and motivation. A diagnosis can provide clarity and self-understanding rather than blame.
If symptoms affect multiple areas of life and have persisted for a long time, an ADHD assessment is a valuable step.
Some of the reasons why you should strongly consider getting an ADHD assessment include the following:
Getting an ADHD assessment in Portsmouth allows individuals to access specialist care without travelling long distances. Local assessments are often more convenient, helping patients fit appointments around work, education, or family commitments.
A diagnosis provides clarity and validation, helping individuals understand that their challenges are not due to laziness or lack of effort but are rooted in how their brain processes information.
An ADHD assessment does not simply provide a label. It opens the door to tailored support, coping strategies, and treatment options that can significantly improve quality of life. Many people report improved confidence, better relationships, and greater success at work or school after receiving an accurate diagnosis.
After completing an ADHD assessment, you will receive a clear clinical outcome based on recognised diagnostic criteria. This includes confirmation of whether ADHD is present and, if so, which type of ADHD best describes your symptoms.
Understanding the type and severity of ADHD is essential for identifying appropriate next steps and support strategies.
A comprehensive written report is provided following your assessment. This document explains the assessment process, findings, diagnosis, and the clinical reasoning behind the conclusion. It can be shared with your GP, employer, school, or university if required.
In addition to diagnosis, you will receive tailored recommendations. These may include treatment options, lifestyle strategies, workplace or educational adjustments, and guidance on managing ADHD symptoms day to day. This personalised approach ensures the assessment leads to meaningful, practical outcomes.
ADHD assessments are available through the NHS; however, access can be challenging due to high demand and limited specialist resources. Many individuals face long waiting times before they are even seen for an initial appointment.
While NHS assessments are clinically valid, delays can significantly impact mental health, work performance, and education, particularly for those who are already struggling.
Private ADHD assessments offer an alternative route that prioritises speed, depth, and flexibility. Below are some of the key benefits of choosing a private assessment, explained in detail.
Private assessments allow individuals to be seen much sooner, often within weeks rather than months or years. This reduces prolonged uncertainty and enables faster access to support and treatment.
Private assessments typically allow more time for detailed discussion, ensuring your history, symptoms, and concerns are fully explored rather than rushed.
Private clinics often offer more appointment options, making it easier to attend assessments around work, school, or family commitments.
For many people in Portsmouth, private assessment offers a practical and timely solution.
Neuro Medical Group assessments are carried out by experienced clinicians with specialist knowledge of ADHD in both adults and children. This expertise ensures accurate diagnosis and a compassionate, patient-centred approach.

The focus is not only on diagnosis but on understanding how ADHD affects you as an individual.
Neuro Medical Group prioritises honest, ethical practice. ADHD is diagnosed only when clinical criteria are met, and alternative explanations for symptoms are carefully considered. This ensures patients receive accurate answers rather than rushed conclusions.
Assessment does not end with diagnosis. Patients receive guidance on next steps, including treatment discussions, referrals, and practical coping strategies. This holistic approach helps individuals move forward with confidence.
