ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

ADHD is a common condition, but one that is often riddled with misinformation and myths, making it harder to understand, especially among those who struggle with it. The situation is made worse by the fact that the symptoms of ADHD are not definite and are often associated with other conditions, including depression and anxiety.
Most people struggling with ADHD often struggle with focus, concentration and self-regulation. These difficulties can affect academic performance, professional life, and personal relationships, and often persist for years, often starting in childhood.
A private ADHD assessment in Southampton provides a detailed evaluation to identify whether Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be influencing these patterns and offers strategies to manage them effectively.
At The Neuro Medical Group, we provide expert-led assessments that combine clinical accuracy with a personalised approach, ensuring every individual gains insight, clarity, and guidance tailored to their unique experiences.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain manages focus, attention, and self-control. Although the condition is often linked to laziness, lack of discipline, or poor parenting, it is a neurological condition. ADHD impacts the neurological pathways responsible for executive functioning and the skills that govern planning, organisation, impulse control, and emotional regulation.
These differences can manifest in a variety of ways, affecting academic, professional, and personal life. Recognising ADHD as a neurological condition allows for accurate assessment and meaningful support rather than misplaced self-blame.
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects the brain’s ability to regulate attention, behaviour, and emotional responses. It is not caused by a lack of effort or intelligence. Instead, it arises from differences in brain networks responsible for executive functioning. These are the mental skills involved in planning, organising, prioritising, and controlling impulses.
ADHD manifests in several distinct ways:
Individuals with this form often struggle to maintain focus, follow complex instructions, or complete tasks. They may appear distracted, forgetful, or disorganised in day-to-day life.
This presentation involves heightened levels of restlessness, impulsivity, and difficulty controlling actions. Individuals may act spontaneously without thinking and find it hard to remain seated or still for extended periods.
Many people experience both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms, which may vary depending on the environment and life stage.
Identifying the correct type is essential for developing strategies and interventions that work effectively for each individual.
Receiving a formal ADHD diagnosis provides clarity and direction. Without proper evaluation, individuals often struggle for years, attributing challenges with focus, organisation, or emotional control to personal failings. Diagnosis allows people to understand the neurological basis of their difficulties, reducing self-blame and frustration.
A diagnosis also opens access to targeted strategies and interventions, including behavioural techniques, lifestyle adjustments, therapeutic support, and, when appropriate, medical treatment. For adults, it can explain long-standing patterns and help in structuring work, home, and social life more effectively. Early assessment is particularly valuable as it provides insight before difficulties escalate into stress, burnout, or mental health complications.
A private ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a trained clinician specialising in neurodevelopmental disorders. Unlike brief screenings or online questionnaires, private assessments provide a detailed, evidence-based analysis of your attention, behaviour, and executive functioning.
During the assessment, the clinician will:
The assessment concludes with a thorough report outlining findings, diagnosis, and personalised recommendations for managing symptoms.
You may benefit from a private ADHD assessment in Southampton if challenges with focus, organisation, or impulse control significantly affect your day-to-day functioning. Some common indicators include:
Assessment is relevant for children, adolescents, and adults. Adults often seek evaluation after recognising persistent patterns in their careers, education, or personal lives. Early assessment in children can support learning strategies and social development before challenges escalate.
ADHD assessments are valuable for individuals at all stages of life:
Evaluation can identify early attention or behaviour difficulties, enabling targeted support for learning, social interactions, and confidence-building.
Many adults discover ADHD later in life after experiencing lifelong challenges with focus, organisation, or emotional regulation. A formal assessment provides validation, clarity, and guidance.
Understanding ADHD in children or adolescents allows parents to implement supportive strategies and liaise effectively with schools or educational institutions.
If you have long-term difficulties that feel disproportionate to effort or ability, a private ADHD assessment may provide the understanding and tools needed to improve daily life.
While the NHS provides ADHD evaluations, private assessments offer several benefits:
Private clinics often schedule assessments much sooner, allowing timely diagnosis and support.
More time is allocated to explore developmental history, current symptoms, and environmental factors.
Private assessments provide detailed reports with personalised strategies for work, education, and daily functioning.
Sessions can be scheduled around work, school, or family commitments, ensuring minimal disruption to daily life.
Private assessments maintain the same clinical standards as NHS evaluations but offer a more personalised, patient-focused experience.
