ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain manages focus, attention, and self-control. Although the condition is often linked to laziness, lack of discipline, or poor parenting, it is a neurological condition. ADHD impacts the neurological pathways responsible for executive functioning and the skills that govern planning, organisation, impulse control, and emotional regulation.
These differences can manifest in a variety of ways, affecting academic, professional, and personal life. Recognising ADHD as a neurological condition allows for accurate assessment and meaningful support rather than misplaced self-blame.
ADHD does not follow a single pattern, which is one reason it is frequently misunderstood or missed altogether. Symptoms can vary significantly from person to person and may change over time. Some individuals struggle primarily with focus and organisation, while others experience restlessness, impulsivity, or difficulties with emotional regulation.
Clinicians generally recognise three core presentations of ADHD. Understanding these helps explain why the condition can look so different from one individual to another.
This presentation involves difficulties with concentration, memory, organisation, and completing tasks. Individuals may appear quiet, withdrawn, or daydreamy and are often described as underachieving despite having clear ability.
People with this presentation may struggle with restlessness, impulsive decision-making, excessive talking, and difficulty waiting or sitting still. These traits are often more noticeable in children but can persist into adulthood in more subtle ways.
This is the most common form of ADHD and includes features of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. It can have a broad impact on work, education, relationships, and self-esteem.
Recognising how ADHD presents is essential for accurate diagnosis and tailored support.
If you experience any of the following challenges, it may be time to consider getting an ADHD assessment.
You may wish to consider an ADHD assessment if you experience ongoing difficulties with focus, organisation, impulsivity, or emotional regulation that interfere with your daily life. These challenges are typically long-standing rather than occasional and often affect more than one area, such as work, education, and relationships.
Adults frequently seek assessments after experiencing repeated burnout, difficulty maintaining routines, or a sense that they are constantly struggling despite their best efforts. Children and teenagers may benefit from assessment if they are having persistent difficulties at school, with behaviour, or socially.
This may include difficulties with time management, prioritisation, or completing everyday responsibilities despite good intentions.
ADHD symptoms usually begin early in life, even if they were not recognised or diagnosed at the time.
If these experiences resonate, an ADHD assessment can provide clarity and direction.
Without an assessment, ADHD symptoms are often misattributed to personality flaws, lack of motivation, or poor discipline. An accurate diagnosis helps individuals understand that their challenges are neurological rather than personal failings.
This understanding alone can be life-changing, improving self-esteem and reducing long-standing feelings of frustration or shame.
An ADHD assessment opens the door to tailored support, which may include behavioural strategies, workplace or educational adjustments, and medical treatment where appropriate. For children and students, a diagnosis can support access to additional learning support.
Early and accurate diagnosis can significantly improve long-term outcomes and quality of life.
ADHD assessments are available through the NHS, but demand often exceeds capacity. As a result, many individuals experience long waiting times, which can delay diagnosis and support.
While NHS assessments are clinically robust, the extended wait can be challenging for those whose symptoms are already affecting mental health, work performance, or education.
Private ADHD assessments offer an alternative for those seeking timely and comprehensive care. Below are some of the key benefits of choosing a private assessment, explained in detail.
Private assessments allow individuals to be seen much sooner, reducing prolonged uncertainty and enabling faster access to support.
Appointments are often longer, allowing clinicians to fully explore personal history, symptoms, and how ADHD affects daily life.
Private clinics typically offer more flexible appointment scheduling and a more personalised approach.
For many people in Swansea, a private assessment provides clarity without long delays.
A private ADHD assessment is designed to be thorough, confidential, and focused on understanding you as an individual. It is not a test you can pass or fail, but a clinical evaluation of long-standing patterns and experiences.
You will usually complete structured questionnaires that assess attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. These help the clinician prepare for the assessment and identify relevant areas to explore.
The clinician will discuss your symptoms in detail, including how they affect your work, education, relationships, and emotional well-being. Childhood history is also explored, as ADHD must show evidence of early onset.
All information is reviewed against recognised diagnostic criteria. If ADHD is diagnosed, the clinician will explain the type and how it applies to you.
You will receive a detailed report outlining the findings, diagnosis, and personalised recommendations for next steps.
This structured approach ensures accuracy and transparency throughout the process.
Neuro Medical Group assessments are conducted by experienced clinicians with specialist knowledge of ADHD in both adults and children. This expertise ensures that diagnoses are accurate, responsible, and evidence-based.
