ADHD is a ‘neurodevelopmental’ disorder which can affect a number of areas of brain function. With understanding, care and holistic treatment, people with ADHD can be successfully supported to improve their quality of life. Children and Adults with ADHD may experience difficulties with:

For you to have ADHD, the symptoms have to be severe enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one area of your life. As you grow older, diagnosing ADHD becomes more difficult because some of the symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or depression. This makes getting an ADHD assessment as soon as possible vital for an accurate diagnosis.
We gather family, medical and neurodevelopmental history through our standardised questionnaires during the screening process.
Then we meet you for a feedback session for around 60 mins (face to face or online) where we gather additional information and go through the findings of the questionnaires and decide next steps.
If the decision is to continue with the ADHD pathway, we continue with the next phase in the pathway…
You will meet a Consultant for the Diva Assessment which lasts around 90 -120 mins. This focuses on the type of ADHD existent and behaviour now in relation to childhood. The details are passed onto the specialist for your diagnosis appointment. This appointment is face to face or online.
You will meet the Psychiatrist or a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for a 60 minute appointment who will assess whether you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis, and may ask you further questions. Treatment plans can then be discussed at an additional cost. A comprehensive report will follow with next steps and recommendations.
Costings are in two parts.

Ongoing difficulties with attention, organisation, or impulse control are not to be taken lightly. These challenges can affect academic performance, professional responsibilities, and personal relationships and could very well be symptoms of ADHD.
However, there are other conditions, such as anxiety and depression, that may present the same symptoms. The only way to be certain or rule out ADHD is through an assessment that can be conducted in a private clinic or at the NHS.
At The Neuro Medical Group, we offer comprehensive assessments led by experienced clinicians. Our approach is thorough, patient-centred, and tailored to each individual’s unique experiences. Through careful evaluation, we not only provide a diagnosis but also practical strategies to help improve daily functioning and overall well-being.

Understanding ADHD is a great place to start, especially because the condition is shrouded in myth and misinformation. ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects your ability to manage attention, impulses, and activity levels.
Although the condition is often associated with children, it can also affect teenagers and even adults, but the symptoms shift as life demands change. The nature and inadequate information surrounding ADHD makes it possible for people to live for years without a diagnosis, unaware that the challenges they face in everyday life may be rooted in ADHD.
Common challenges among people with ADHD include:
Without proper assessment and treatment, these challenges can affect school performance, career progression, relationships, and your overall wellbeing.
Further research into ADHD has revealed that the condition is not the same for everyone. There are different types of ADHD and understanding the type you may have helped professionals create the right treatment and support plan.
There are three main types of ADHD recognised under healthcare guidelines:
The inattentive type is often characterised by difficulty staying focused, frequently losing items, forgetfulness, being easily distracted, and struggling to follow instructions. People with this type may not display obvious signs of hyperactivity, and are often perceived as lazy.
This type of ADHD includes symptoms such as restlessness, excessive talking, interrupting others, and difficulty sitting still. This type is more commonly identified in childhood but can persist into adulthood.
The combined type is the most common form of ADHD and includes symptoms from both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive categories. If you have combined ADHD you may struggle with focus as well as high energy levels, impulsive behaviour, and difficulty managing time or tasks.
An ADHD assessment is a vital tool in determining if your symptoms are associated with ADHD. The assessment follows a structured and detailed process designed to meet the clinical criteria for ADHD.
Our comprehensive ADHD assessment will examine your developmental history, behavioural patterns, everyday functioning, and the impact of symptoms across different areas of life. The assessment is not just about providing you with a diagnosis, but also helping you gain clarity, understand your strengths, and learn the type of support that will make your life more manageable.
There are many reasons why you should consider getting an assessment. If you constantly feel overwhelmed, struggle to stay organised, or have difficulty managing responsibilities, an assessment can help uncover whether ADHD may be the cause.
Some people also seek an assessment after years of coping with undiagnosed symptoms, while others pursue one because a teacher, employer, or partner has noticed specific challenges. An assessment can also be helpful before starting university or a new job, ensuring you have access to the support you need to thrive.
People of all ages can benefit from our private ADHD assessment in York. Children often need assessment when they show persistent difficulties in school, struggle socially, or experience behavioural challenges that affect home life. Early diagnosis can help them access educational support and understand their own emotional and behavioural needs.
Teenagers may require assessment as academic demands increase and symptoms become more noticeable. Identifying ADHD at this stage can help prevent low self-esteem, school disengagement, and additional mental health challenges such as anxiety.
Adults often seek assessment after years of feeling different or facing repeated challenges in work, relationships, timekeeping, organisation, and self-motivation. Many adults describe the experience of receiving a diagnosis as a turning point that allows them to understand both their struggles and their strengths more clearly.
Parents, employers, and educators may also benefit indirectly, as an accurate diagnosis helps them support the individual more effectively.
A private ADHD assessment at Neuro Medical Group in York offers a thorough, accessible, and personalised process that gives you clarity and confidence. Your assessment begins with a pre-appointment questionnaire that helps our clinicians understand your background, symptoms, and concerns.
The information obtained from the assessment is then explored in detail during a clinical consultation with one of our ADHD specialists. During your appointment, you will discuss your developmental history, daily functioning, behaviour patterns, and any difficulties you may be experiencing at home, work, or school.
We use validated assessment tools to evaluate the presence and severity of ADHD symptoms and come up with a diagnosis. For children, the process includes input from parents and teachers to ensure we gain a complete picture of how symptoms appear in different settings.
After the assessment, you receive a clear diagnostic report outlining the findings, recommendations, and next steps. If you meet the criteria for ADHD, you will be offered guidance on treatment options, which may include medication, coaching, behavioural strategies, and lifestyle adjustments.
Choosing a private ADHD assessment means you do not have to face long waiting lists or uncertainty. At Neuro Medical Group, we offer timely appointments, clear communication, and a compassionate approach to ADHD diagnosis and we also provide you with resources for support.
