Dr Saalim Mirza is a consultant psychiatrist with over ten years of experience supporting adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. His clinical background spans inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, psychiatric intensive care, and rehabilitation settings — across both the NHS and private sectors.

His primary focus is adult psychiatry, with additional experience in older people’s mental health. He is Section 12 (Mental Health Act) approved, with over five years’ experience attending Mental Health Act tribunals, preparing court reports, and providing evidence at inquests.

Dr Mirza has a particular interest in ADHD, and he is also developing his interest in the therapeutic potential of expanded states of consciousness — including psychedelic-assisted therapies and holotropic breathwork. He contributes to related research in an honorary capacity with University College London and has presented on this emerging field.

His practice is grounded in medical psychiatry while integrating psychological insight. During training, he received supervised experience in delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), and developed a working knowledge of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic approaches, and motivational interviewing. He draws upon these frameworks thoughtfully within his clinical practice. He also takes part in Balint groups to reflect on therapeutic relationships and maintain a deeply human approach to care.

Colleagues and patients alike have described Dr Mirza as calm, compassionate, and reflective — qualities he values deeply in psychiatric practice. He sees mental health work as both a scientific and human endeavour, where empathy, listening, and understanding are foundational to healing.

Outside of work, he is contemplative by nature and has an interest in spirituality, Eastern philosophies, genealogy, and chess. Above all, he values personal and family time and prioritises this for a healthy work-life balance. He is a husband, brother, and proud father of two — relationships that continue to shape his perspective and approach to compassionate, balanced living.
